Dean Matt, Verano’s Chief Financial Officer, is a seasoned CFO, certified professional accountant (CPA) and entrepreneur with over 25 years of providing financial leadership across a broad spectrum of companies, including public, private, domestic, international, start-up and large companies. Leading M&A, capital market strategy, raising capital, building financial and accounting infrastructure for multiple companies, his thoughtful insight, focus on detail, timely and accurate reporting and forecasting, and innate ability to control costs, have enabled companies to survive difficult periods as well as thrive. As the former CFO for a private family office, he recognizes what investors are seeking and the tremendous potential for Verano within the emerging cannabis industry.
Dean brings a wealth of public company experience honed as he led M&A efforts for a $13 billion business unit of the $25 billion food conglomerate ConAgra, and oversaw the strategy, capital raising and sale of a unit of a privately held professional services and software company to a Fortune 60 company for seven times revenue. As CFO for an international airline catering company, Dean’s leadership, financial reporting and forecasting enabled the firm to survive 9/11 erase a $7MM loss and, incredibly, break even during that difficult period for the travel industry. On the entrepreneurial side, as the third executive on board an acquisitive waste industry start-up, he set up the entire financial infrastructure, and was instrumental in securing a $25MM private placement. His business acumen for margin enhancement, M&A and expansion enabled a private equity backed telecomm business to grow revenues 300% and increase EBITDA 2000% in 2-1/2 years. Along the way, Dean has indulged his entrepreneurial spirit by launching several companies related to his passion for aviation.
Dean is a CPA and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and his MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
